Letting the cards guide your words
With Andrew McGregor

When working with people the way you deliver the message is crucial if you are going to get buy in from the client. When working with the cards we get two sources of of information to guide us in speaking our words in a way that will be best received. The first comes from listening to what the person says to us. The second comes from the cards themselves. In this workshop we’ll explore various ways to shape “conversation” with the client to help them get he most out of their reading.

Andrew McGregor has been studying psychology and counselling for the last twenty years. Learning from modern western approaches, afro-cuban religious religious approaches, and western mystery traditions. Andrew reads out of his store in Toronto, The Hermit’s Lamp, and organizes a wide range of classes including this one.

A Jungian Approach to Tarot
with Mary K. Greer

Of all the different psychological theories in the West, that of Carl Jung stands out as most applicable to Tarot. Jung wrote about Tarot on several occasions, seeing it as depicting archetypes of transformation like those he found in myths, dreams and alchemy. He described its divinatory abilities as similar to the I-Ching and astrology, and late in life established a group who attempted to integrate insights about a person derived from  several divination systems including Tarot. In this workshop I’ll present some of Jung’s own ideas about Tarot, explain how his model of the psyche integrates with A.E. Waite’s views of Tarot, and show how to use these concepts with the cards in your own readings.

Mary K. Greer is an independent scholar, writer, teacher, and professional tarot consultant, known for her innovative teaching techniques. The Presence and Greater Implications of Synchronicity As Mirrored by Tarot
With Dr. Art Rosengarten
Those of us in the tarot community are privy to a marvelous secret that rather remarkably we simply expect to recur, can almost set our clocks by, and take as a given. So what’s this big secret? The secret is that tarot readings always work! This is particularly amazing when you remember that card selection in a reading is a purely random event, and including reversals, there is the highly rare 1/156 chance that any card will produce a “hit.” Contemporary science cannot explain this at all, so it tends to ignore it. But something indeed extraordinary has in fact occurred, something powerful that can radically shape the direction of a person’s life, give birth to highly creative and original ideas, trigger memories not before visited, and open a window to another dimension of reality otherwise missed in the conventional world.Starting with Jung’s intuition of meaningful coincidence operating in his I Ching divinations, we will explore how the practice of tarot divination actually sets the conditions wherein synchronicity is likely to occur, and how tarot symbols produce a state of consciousness that invites another world to shine through.

Dr. Art Rosengarten is a clinical psychologist in San Diego as well as an author, teacher, and innovator of modern tarot. He wrote the first accredited doctoral dissertation on Tarot which he compared to Dream Interpretation and projective story-telling (TAT) and was a featured presenter at all three World Tarot Congresses presented by the International Tarot Symposium. Art’s book Tarot and Psychology: Spectrums of Possibility has been in print for over 15 years, and his highly original deck Tarot of the Nine Paths: Advanced Tarot for the Spiritual Traveler with the addition of 5 new trumps he believes has “expanded the edifice without violating the sacred architecture.”
